The History of DNHL…
The Nordic Hospital Games (DNHL) became a reality in 1975 when the Copenhagen University Hospital (Rigshospitalet) in corporation with Lillehammer Gjørvik Fylkesykehus took the initiative to form and host the first games in Copenhagen.
The FAIR PLAY TROPHY donated by the Copenhagen University Hospital was also introduced the same year and has been awarded ever since at the closing ceremony and gala Dinner banquet of the games.
In 1983 The Nordic Hospital Games Organization was founded. The organization has also donated a trophy which is awarded to the best overall Nordic team effort. The Winning team is decided from a point system which is established by organizations rules for the games.
The purpose of the Nordic Hospital Games is to provide an unique setting for hundreds of attending employees from the hospital sectors in the Nordic countries to join in a celebration of unity and friendship, and to strengthening the team spirit across occupation boundaries on the local institution (hospital nurse, porter, secretary or a doctor).
Since the beginning of the DNHL games there has been 19. Games. The Events has been held approximately every 2nd year and the hosting country has Bispebjerg Hospital has been hosting the games to times in the past. First time was when IBBH (Sports Club at Bispebjerg Hospital) celebrated 30th anniversary in 1979 (Copenhagen) and again at the millennium starting year celebrating IBBH’s 50th anniversary (Vingsted, Vejle in Jutland). 21. of September 2009 IBBH will reach 60th anniversary and in order to celebrate this anniversary we will be the proud organizers of the 20th DNHL Games in Copenhagen. | Location history for DNHL (1975-2010) | | No. | Year | City | Country | | 1 st | 1975 | Copenhagen | Denmark | | 2 nd | 1976 | Oslo | Norway | | 3 rd | 1977 | Sønderborg | Denmark | | 4 th | 1979 | Copenhagen | Denmark | | 5 th | 1981 | Vingsted | Denmark | | 6 th | 1983 | Vingsted | Denmark | | 7 th | 1984 | Vänersborg/T-hätten | Norway | | 8 th | 1986 | Vingsted | Denmark | | 9 th | 1988 | Copenhagen | Denmark | | 10 th | 1990 | Malmö | Sweden | | 11 th | 1992 | Oslo | Norway | | 12 th | 1994 | Jönköping | Sweden | | 13 th | 1996 | Copenhagen | Denmark | | 14 th | 1998 | Stavanger | Norway | | 15 th | 2000 | Vingsted | Denmark | | 16 th | 2002 | Reykjavik | Iceland | | 17 th | 2004 | Malmö | Sweden | | 18 th | 2006 | Haugesund | Norway | | 19 th | 2008 | Falun | Sweden | | 20 th | 2010 | Copenhagen | Denmark |
